1. Country style mugs

We want every cup of tea or coffee to feel like a little treat before or after a day exploring Galloway. There is always something lovely about wrapping your hands around a lovely mug while relaxing by the fire it’s one of those small touches that helps make a holiday feel cosy.

2. Cosy throws

There’s nothing nicer than curling up on the sofa with a soft blanket after a long walk. We always make sure our cottages have warm, comfortable throws that guests can use while reading a book, watching a movie or simply enjoying a quiet evening.

3. Soft lighting and lamps

We use soft lighting in our cottages to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Rather than relying on bright overhead lights, we’ve chosen table lamps and smaller lights that make the room feel cosy, particularly on dark autumn and winter evenings. A simple thing that can change the feel of a room.

4. Comfortable garden chairs

One of the loveliest things about a cottage break is being able to sit outside and enjoy the peace and quiet. We chose comfortable garden chairs so our guests can relax with a morning coffee, enjoy the sunshine or simply sit and take in the countryside around them.

5. A really good shower

A good shower is one of those things you really appreciate when you’re away from home, especially after a long walk. We wanted our bathrooms to feel comfortable, so a lovely shower was high on our list when creating the cottages.

6. Lovely hand soap

We like to provide lovely hand soap in our cottages – something that looks nice beside the basin, smells beautiful and adds a little touch of luxury to the bathroom.

7. A welcome basket

We love having something waiting for our guests to arrive. A welcome basket is our way of saying hello and helping the holiday get off to a lovely start. It’s just a few treats that guests can enjoy once they’ve settled in.

8. Books and games

We like to leave a small selection of books and board games for guests to enjoy during a relaxing evening in. Whether it’s a rainy afternoon or a quiet night by the fire, it’s nice to be able to switch off, put the phones away and spend time together.

9. Comfortable beds

A great night’s sleep is one of the most important parts of any holiday. We chose beds, quality bedding and soft pillows to help our guests wake up feeling relaxed and refreshed, ready to enjoy another day exploring Galloway.

10. Well equipped kitchen

We know many of our guests enjoy cooking during their stay, so we’ve made sure our kitchens are equipped with everything needed to prepare anything from a simple breakfast to a meal cooked in the slow cooker ready for your return from a day exploring.

We hope these little touches give you some inspiration for creating a cosy welcoming home. They are all things we find work well in our own holiday cottages here in Galloway.
